How to Pick a Gamertag That You Won't Regret

Your gamertag is your identity. It's what shows up in kill feeds, friend lists, and leaderboards. Pick wrong and you're stuck with "xXShadowKillerXx" for years. Pick right and you've got a name that actually represents you.

I've been gaming for 15 years and changed my gamertag exactly once (because the first one was embarrassing). Here's everything I've learned about picking a name you'll actually keep.

STEP 1
Decide Your Vibe

What do you want your gamertag to say about you? This decision affects everything else.

💡 Pro tip: If you must use numbers, use meaningful ones: birth year (03, 99), lucky number (7, 13), or jersey number (23). Never random sequences like 739264.
